LOST COMMENT: Religious references in ABC's LOST TV Series : PART 2

THE NUMBERS:
Coult it be only that the NUMBERS on the Swan Hatch door is just a coincidence. Its the representation of the numbers that made LOST so appealing in season 2/3. Until now the numbers have only been referenced really to the vallenzetti equation, predicting the end if the earth. Wel thin about the possibilities of this . The Hebrew language has no separate numerical identifiers. The interpretation thoeries of the Torah and iteachings of the Kabbalah included many different ways based on numbers alone. Since Hebrew character represents a numerical value the torah can then be open for interptation by 'translating' the passages numerical information. Could the NUMBERS be in reference to religious writings from ancient times?

"Tree of life" as it relate to the Kabbalah also has 10 'stems' (called sephirot) aech connecting the meanings of these things in diffrerrent ways. They connect different forces andand ares of thought. I have found many links to dreaw these t the messages of LOST in the story ofteling of FATE FREE WILL, TRUST, VICTORY

At their fundamental level, the ten Sephirot are a step-by-step process illuminating the Divine plan as it unfolds itself in our world. They are known by the following names/characteristics from highest to lowest:
also there are in a slightly diffeent order here:
The Sephirot above are listed in order according to the version given by rabbi Moses ben Jacob Cordovero. Some list the Sephirot somewhat differently by taking out Keter and adding in da'at:
1. Keter - Crown - Divine Plan/ Creator/ infinite light/ Ehyeh Asher Ehyeh - I AM THAT I AM (Supreme/ Total Consciousness)
2. Chokmah - Divine Reality/ revelation/ Yesh me-ayin - being from nothingness (Power of Wisdom)
3. Binah - Understanding/ repentance/ reason (Power of Love)
4. Chesed - Mercy/ Grace/ Love of (intention to emulate) God (Power of Vision)
5. Gevurah - Judgment/ strength/ determination (Power of Intention)
6. Tipheret - Symmetry/ balance/ compassion (Creative Power)
7. Netzach - Contemplation/ Initiative/ persistence (Power of the Eternal Now)
8. Hod - Surrender/ sincerity/ steadfastness (Intellectual/ Observational Power)
9. Yesod - Foundation/ wholly remembering/ coherent knowledge (Power of Manifesting)
10. Malkuth - Lower Crown - Kingdom/ physical presence/ vision and illusion (Power of Healing / Accomplishment/ Level of Realization of Divine Plan

These relate to many events told in LOST thus far:

Power of the island, Losties repenting: Jack Kate; maybe even Ben, Smokey appears to be merciful, Ben was being judged, Compassion for child Ben before his evil nature, Example of Locke/Ben/Wimore/Richard, The island has the power of healing power, I believe Lcoke was told of the (devine) plan the island and what Jacob wants

LOST COMMENT: Religious references in ABC's LOST TV Series : PART 1

Close to home:
I remember seeing the "10 Commandments" with as a kid, and I found the imagery of the film has stayed with me. The story of the 10 plagues, the exodus, the parting of the Red Sea seemed truly fantastical. This imagery, really stuck with me ever since that time, so I can only imagine what it would have been like kids of various religions to regularly attend weekly religious services. This would not only carve strong images and memories, but be something that was close to home all throughout their lives. The very nature of religion only poses more questions, such as, the creation of the universe, the earth, the powers of God, the forces of good and evil and the very meaning of life.

I am convinced that The Story of LOST and the island MUST have a direct relation to the elements of many religious beliefs simply because their content is so rich with mysticism and interpretation. Religious beliefs throughout history relate and explain human nature and cultural aspects of civilization - and that of the 'free will' that has brought us all to this point in time on earth. There is no better material than this to tell the story of LOST.

After digging up 'tid-bits' of information and finding tie-ins with LOST and its story telling components I soon realized how far this rabbit hole would take me. For as I continue to examine LOST, it appears to have many levels of explanation as it explores elements of forces of naure, relationships, metaphysical being and time. Whether is was the intent of the writers or not... LOST allows the viewers to reflect its possible meaning(s). When we examine these theories and philosophies inwardly, we realize that.. We are inevitably lost like those (characters) in LOST. Those same temptations and challenges face us all in our every day decisions. The only thing is that few of us think of our own actions as choices we make...our own free will; few of us don't think of the consequences that happen and that we may change our own futures (or short term futures) and seem to influence our destiny; few us forget about the simple things are really everything. (truth, honesty, love and all the good stuff) . Who know....because of LOST perhaps we will find meaning for ourselves, and our greater reason for being ;our existence. Wow thats deep!.

The details...and religious tie-ins.
I imagined that Damon and Carlton are laughing their asses of as they watch all the theories and theory casts regading LOST. We may be getting closer to figuring it all out before the series of over. As per my ealier guess that the hyroglyphs in the temple (in Smokey's 'crib') explains an offering of souls from Anubis (God of the dead) to the figure on the left ,The Smoke Monster. This image can also be interpreted as Anubis is accepting something rather than offering.

The Smoke Monster:
I believe the smoke monster ideals follow along the same idea for the island social culture.
Smokey could be a sort of Djinn.
"Djinn (also jinn, djinn, from Arabic جني jinnī) is a supernatural creature which possesses free will. ...
They can be either good or evil. In some cases, evil genies are said to lead humans astray....Similar to humans, jinns have free will allowing them to follow any religion they choose. Jinns have significantly lower intelligence than humans but are physically stronger...They are usually invisible to humans and humans do not appear clear to them. However, non-Muslim jinn often harass and even possess humans...Jinns have the power to travel large distances extremely quickly and live in remote areas, mountains, seas, trees, and the air, in their own communities. Like humans, jinns will also be judged on The Day of Judgment and will be sent to Heaven or Hell according to their deeds.[11] Since humans usually cannot see them and humans do not appear clear to them, the human "world" and that of the jinn is considered separate, and only practitioners of "black magic" contact them deliberately...Every person is assigned a special jinn to them, also called a qareen, the jinns that whisper into your soul and tell you to give into your evil desires." (7)

Control of information.:
Even back in ancient times of emerging and defining religions 700bc-300 bc, it was all about control of information led to the control of actions of people and therefore wealth properties and land. The only thing left to control was the souls and thoughts of people / the masses. In order for the system of slavery to be accepted by the slaves themselves was to keep them illiterate and provide them with a promise of something better to come after their enslaved life is over; the idea of eternal life in a place of peace (ie: a heaven or Eden ) Only to those who followed the rules set out for them in religious scripts.

The island of LOST appears to have its own religion defined by a rigid set of Laws/rules. Knowledge of the secrets and knowledge of its mystic power of the island yields the ultimate control which that is being sought after and fought over.

good and evil - interpretations of religious principles and beliefs is interesting in studying the nature of humanity and mankind both historically and today. It explains class structures, cultures, motivations and the nature of man. Due to man's pre-disposition to survival, we tended to use power over another at the other's expense ('Evil') as a more reliable means to achieve and maintain consistency in survival. As people developed intellectually, we discovered that this physical domination may not be needed in to achieve survival and control. We may choose. A choice (freewill) to take a different path and spare infliction of pain and force ('good'/'kindness'), but rather control through base intellect.

Ben Controls the Losties (and well..everyone) my manipulating people, using their own insecurity , play on emotions, and leading their reasoning. Sawyer manipulates lies and cons people--of which I believe has still yet to repent, all actions of which are of 'evil' .

My findings found on Wikipedia--
Most of LOSTs secrets seem to ferenced based on various religious writings and mysticism. First of all, I have found that many points about Lost touch upon facts/ items that have been disputed or postured by thologens throughout history and to this day. ie the Ankh holds different beliefs as to its true meaning and origin rather than just one specific symbolic meaning. The main religions that have been referenced stem from ancient Egyptian times and polytheistic beliefs (as early as 3500bc). The Torah, the Bible and the Qur'an (Islamic) reference similar content. Are the reigions in the history of man are intrisically tied to egypt? Asian religions beliefs and cultures have been separated from these by geographical limitation, only to meet 'round the other side of the world.
I think the reason for borrowing from all these religions is, in part, to explain the Islands creatiion of their own religion and the 'free will ' of the Smoke monster (Smokey).
So.. i suppose / propose that the temple is a sort of Throne / Resting place for Smokey. Smokey seems to be an energy that harnesses souls or at least temporarily. Also The Smoke Monster is a 'security System " for a larger secret.

LOST: 5x10 He is our You

LOST 5x10:
Initial reactions:
Slow moving but interesting developments in Dharmaville. Its really a Sayid-centric episode that served to understand why Sayid feels his reason is for returning to the island--To Kill ben. (so that Ben and Sun can come to 1977)

Quick thoughts:
1-Jack could operate on child-Ben and save him.

2-Time: Losties can change instances on the island free from destroying their future selves

3-Sawyer was responsible for leaving the rope sticking out of the grond at the well during the time of the 4-toed statue. This gave wayto the somone (presomably Dharma ) by discovering the frozen donkey wheel chanmber by simple digging up the rope in the ground.

4-not much humouror this episode

5- Horace looks scarier and intimidating without glasses

6- Bens hat in Moscow looks rediculous

Favourite line:
1-Sawyer to Juliet as she looks out the window: "What's on the TV?"

Namaste: LOST: 5x09

LOST Great episode: wonderful introduction to Dharmaville in the 70's. some great info in last weeks podcasts that i managed to get to: Lost Flashbacks / Lost Lowdown / Blackrock Poscast / Jacob's Cabin / Lost Revisited Now / Smokehatch / Cranky Fanatic / theJoshMeister's Lost Podcast.

As I researched Juliet's comments of Aliens(Egyptians) using the landing strip. I found this interesting because Egyptians seemed to know about sciences and technologies before their times we are using today.
LOST THEORY: Egyptians came to earth on the island . They entered the real world back in time 3000 bc from the island.

Straggling last few comments from LOST: 5x07

Overflow:
Final island comments from: LOST- 5x07 "The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham"

1.) Widmore's memory of John Locke, that Charles speaks of, seems like he's had since he was with Dharma on the island as a young man. If Widmores memories are from back then, rather than 'just planted' memories like the one from Daniel Faradey to Desomd at the Hatch door, then Locke did influence time. However, from Widmore's perpective, Charles thought 'Wow only 4 days...that's amazing'. -- Does Widmore really know how the whole time thing works regarding the island?

2.) John Locke's Decomposing body doesn't decompose?

...maybe that's why he's special. If Locke's body was REALLY dead meat ...it can only keep at room temperature for a short time. It seems unrealistic that the body wouldn't have smelled REALLY bad from being in the van even if only for a while. Jack didn't seem to notice any stong smell when he put his Christion's shoes on Locke's feet. Also, the meat /'cold-room' in the butchershop wasn't cold enough to see your breath. Things can still go bad in the fridge.

3.) Ben turned the donkey wheel ahead of Locke to get a head start in helping the O6 to get back to the island - cause he knows John would have trouble convincing the O6 to return.
`
Meaning of the Show.
The writers of the show are commenting on: life(birth)/death(eternal), , morality, humanity, belief and faith, war related to religion, communication, truth vs lies. With the episode "Life and death of Jeremy Bentham" It forces us all to look at ourselves AND determine the struggle we want to face rather than fighting off the stuggles that happen to us, hurt us and slow us down as a species.

LOST: 5x07 "The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham"

Initial Reaction & Comments

Overall

I realy enjoyed this Episode. We FINALLY get to see a Locke Centric episode (gee I haven't said that for a long time)! This episode beautifully mimics John Lockes Life in a nutshell. Locke seems to fail at every thing : he fails at Love with Helen, fails at his hippie pot growing commune, and fails at getting the losties to come back. He is desparate and still does not know what to do. His is unsure and constantly looking for direction from himself and other people.

NEW and IMPROVED Locke...

I like how the episode is titled as "The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham" and not "The Life and Death of John Locke", for Locke is 'reborn' into a NEW and IMPROVED Locke, ready to 'take command as a Leader. Only... he still seems to be a bit bumbling in trying to make sense of everything - like Columbo (Character an old TV series). Never the less John Locke is COMING OF AGE and ready to take control, and hopefully make smart(er) decisions. He must learn to NOT be so trusting and needy.

Who's the Hero NOW? -Ben or Charles

Theory
: I believe that Ben is the protagonist in the story. The reasons for Ben's actions (ie: the apparent brutal murder of John Locke) were, once again, cloudy as Ben says " I'll miss you John... I really will", after leaving the room . All of Ben's lies are sprinkled with a bit of truth to continue to drag us along his manipulation game. I really want to believe Ben when he says "We're the GOOD guys Micheal"!

Ineresting Points

1)
I REALLY was anticipating JACOB to be the one on the beach with Ceasar not Locke (can't explain that one -- just a feeling)

2)
Kates reation to John appears 'tongue-in-cheeek' after Locke explains loosing Helen due to his "bsession" Kate says " look how far youve com [John]". as Kate believes he is obsessed with the island and himself.

3)
Did Ben bring the BLUE RUBBER Glove with him to see John Locke with full intent to kill him or did he v]hasve the gloves 'jut in case. The War I hope the mention of the impending WAR (by Charles Widmore) is a reference both an Island war and a real-world happening. (the cover of the LIFE Magazine was a direct reference to "Jughead") it would be an interesting direction for the show to take in explaining the humanity, time, death, continuity, hate, violence, human weakness and motivations etc., in the world.

Top 5 Fav scenes/lines in the show:
1- Widmore to John Locke "there's a war coming and if you're not on the island the wrong side is going to win" .

2- Walt says to Locke dreams of " you're on the island [John] in a suit and people are tryng to hurt you"

3- Jack says to Locke " fate?!... its probability!... [John] you're just a Lonley old man"

4- Locke lets his heart get in the way of recruiting Walt and Sayid. After his weak efforts John says to Sayid " well.. if you change your mid call me [at the hotel]"

5- When looking at the 'people who got hurt' Ceasar said to Locke "Do you know him?". Locke answers: "Ya...he's the one who killed me"

Meaning of the Show
If the island is like the paradise symbol, eden if you will, the magical place that can heal all and exist free of time itself, it mimics the VALUE of the REAL WORLD. I like how the LOST story is told in such a way that its viewers draw the similarities of the show to the real world and make a connection with values to tim, life and death.

Unanswered Questions:
1) what are Ben's real motivations regarding the island

2) what are Widmore's real motivations regarding the island

3) How does Walt tie in? -- (and Desmond & Aaron & Christian and Jacob and on and on)

4) will we get to read the 1st mate's Blackrock journal?

LOST: Season 5 Episode 05

Source: Image is from Dark UFO's Website: http://losteastereggs.blogspot.com

"This place is death"

Themes:
It seems that the show has lost its theme based orientation or flashback centric storytelling. In so doing, LOST has not really been concentrating on themes as a narrative device but rather dealing with only the story. THIS may be intentional by the writers as it may be too confusing in dealing with all the time shifting. I do however look forward to the island finally being 'grounded' so we can stop the dizzying time shifting for a while.

If I had to select a theme for this episode it would be that of "Struggle".
Sun - struggling with the death of her husband Jin and her avenging his death.
Ben - His struggle with being now trusted, which represents a classic 'boy who cried wolf' syndrome.
Charlotte - Her struggle with her past and pending death.
Kate - Her struggle with keepink 'her son' Aaron.

ON second thought:
A few things that I'd like to bring attention to:
1.) Although Daniel Faraday says that "You cannot change the past no matter how hard you try you will fail every time..." I believe he knows this to be untrue as he is able to 'plant' a memory into Desmond's head that appears as a NEW memory fore Desmond in the future.

2.) Time travel problems:
I am having a big problem with time travel and objects that travel through time. Whenever the losties are holding , touching, or sitting in an object it too travels through time. Sawyer for instace holds on to the rope at the well and after a timeshift back in time to before the well was constructed, the rope is still in his hands. This was a great scene where the rope may have been used for dramatic effect but it does not make sense. If the losties happen to be huging a person belonging to a different time, do they travel through time as well. This begs the question, will we see this happen.

3.) It is till unclear as to who is supposed to come back to the island. Christian said to John Locke that "EVERYONE who left " has to come back. Does this include Desmond, (and Ben and Jeon for that matter)?

Theory:

The Smoke monster is THE ENERGY/SPIRITS OF ALL THE PEOPLE THAT HAVE EVER DIED ON THE ISLAND

LOST season 5 Episode 4 - The Little Prince

Comments:
Lost has begun to tie up some loose ends and seem to present some answers directly tied to time travel.

I feel that this episode focussed on a theme of Choice:
-kates choice between Sawyer and Jack.
-Suns choice to go after Ben ( unknowingly put a wrench in the Ben's plat to get the losties back to the island. )

Off to the orchid...
I suppose we will find out what happens at the orhid next episode presumably Locke turns the Donky Wheel beneath the ground and moves the Island back to where it is supposted to be.
My guess is that Lock does turn the wheel at an earlier Island time and this will be the time that "the Island was moved once before". The only new puzzling question is what will happen to Jin?

LOST Season 5 Episode: "Jughead"

The Episode overall...
provided a couple of WOWs and a confirmation while opening up a whole bunch 'o' cans of worms. At some point there are going to have to be no more new mysteries presented -- or at least ones that cannot be solved by a end-of-series LOST jigsaw puzzle!

Baby Charlie:
Penny's baby boy Charlie (WOW#1) is introduced and I'm guessing the the producers are going to lead us down the path of making him 'SPECIAL" just like his dad. After all he's got Desmond's DNA running through his blood.
By focussing on Penny and Desmond's relationship threatens the viewer that it might be on the decline by lieing and mistrusting each other. I'm getting a little tired of how many times is Desmond going to promise Penny that ''this will be the last time ....then after that [he'll] never leave her''. He's lucky that Penny is such an understanding person and in mad love with him. I'm an old romantic and would like to their relationship stand the 'test of time' (pun intended)

WHAT'S UP WITH: Dan.

It was nice to see Charlotte and Dans relationship start to grow after he admits his undying love (sorry - couldn't resist) for her. Although I can't quite see why he doesn't explain her condition to her especially if she were going to possibly face death. I mean it would only be respectful to tell the person if they are going to die. Another point is that Dan took an additional 30 minute to get back to the beach. Sawyer had asked him why it took him so log and the audience is left with another curios un-explanation from Dan's flimsy reply. Could it have been a time shift? Did Dan have some other agenda?Or was Dan was constipated and looking for a roll of Dharma toilet paper.

Ellie the gun toting tough chick..
.

is barely is able to carry the rifle, let alone carry off her tough character even with her teeth-clenching, I;m still not convinced. SO the big questions raised here is: Is Ellie Mrs Widmore, Penny mom? was penny born on the island? is Penny special or just rich?

Charles Widmore is evil now and was evil then.
It was nice to see the introduction of Charles Widmore character as a young man (WOW#2). I think his character was set bang on! The fact that he was holding a gun to John Locke's head seems to beg for a reversal of this situation later on. How OLD is old?! The audience wants answers! While the LOST writers are still holdinh on thi this way of story telling whereby noy providing a full answer is becomeing more that just a little tiresome.

Locke said to Juliet: How did you know Richard would be here?
Juliet: Richard's always been here.
Locke: How old is he?

Juliet: Old. Why are you so interested in Richard, John?
Locke: I'm interested in him because he was about to tell me how I could save us.
Juliet: "Save us"?
Locke: Yeah. .....But before he could finish, we were interrupted by that flash of light.

Just answer the question Juliet -- with a number please! We discover it was Locke that sent Richard to visit him in the hospital. It was a nice reference and tie-in in the show. Now this also explains the visit by Richard to 'test' Locke as a boy. Jacob may be involved in wanting to test John Locke as a boy.

Where does time start?

And now all of this with respect too time and fate. Which event or fatal moment happened and in which order to make all this happen? Well we are still lead back to the 815 crash as the starting point for all this. Some sort of time loop is suggested here as LOST shows how time is connected. By Messages can be sent through time as Locke's message to Richard and Richard traveling to the hospital to see John. These action imply changing the events in the past and future. Well where does course correction come into play here. I believe that time travel on the island REMAINS on the island. If the island moves in time to let's say 1955 and one was to leave it, would the real world time be 1955 as well?

REVIEW: Ep.5-01 & Ep.5-02:
THEME>> I believe the theme was about TRUTH vs LIE.
ie Jack and Hurley struggling with the whole Oceanic 6 lie
ie: Jack lying to Ben about flushing his pills himself
ie: Ben becoming more likable and seemingly being TRUHTFUL or at least sincere as he is desperate to get all the 0ceanic 6 back to the island
ie: Hurley saying its all happening because they lied

COMMENT>> the reintroduction of old characters ANA LUCIA, Dr Marvin Candle (Dr Chang), Frogurt, and Ethan was nice to see, While the mood and character of the losties seems to be shifting as they get more desperate and confused.

COMMENT>> the mystery cinematic device of hiding the characters faces was a little overdone. Showing their faces would be no less interesting also.
ie: hiding Dr. Changs face, Daniels Face, Ms Hawking's face

NOTE>> Dr. Chang notes that the energy behind the wall can be harnessed to manipulate time as we know its already been harnessed via the original installation of the donkey wheel.

THEORY>> the ancient island inhabitants installed the wheel and there is a 'back door' to the chamber or they covered it up knowing safe to use as a last resort if necessary.

THEORY>> the island is floating like a magnetic iceberg ( with the magnetic energy in the island) over another magnet (the earth's core). The islands 'radius' as Daniel Faraday mentions must extend outward from the shore of the island to the edge/width of the 'iceberg' if you will. The ripples the island made the first time we saw it move ALSO suggests it floating -- like plucking an ice cube out of a bowl. If the island went down to the earth's

COMMENT>> Sun to Ben -- "[our common interest] to KILL benjamin Linus"
It seems a little unrealistic that Sun is so keen on KILLING BEN, other than maybe a cultural thing of avenging loved one's 'murder', it doesn't seem like Sun.

COMMENT>> IT KIILS ME THAT the sound production people can't resist inserting a ''shoosh-metal-on-metal' knife sound when Locke quietly removes his knife from its leather holster while hiding behind the plane before he's discovered by Richard.

COMMENT>> I still believe that the compass Richards Alpert gives to John Locke is his 'constant' in order to remember and trust John Locke in his own past. It seems he's always had some sort of compass - at least since when John Locke was a boy

KUDOS>> Josh Holloway 's performance especially when he showed his desparation by the back door of the hatch -and- when asked by Juliet why he jumped from the helicopter.

COMMENT>> Its funny how Charlotte and the other nose-bleeders never feel their own blood on their upper lip themselves.

JOKE>>FLAMING ARROWs seem unrealistic as they burn too bright and ling after they hit the ground. There must be some heavy duty chemicals on those suckers!

BAD JOKE>> SAWYERS toe with the piece of wood lodged in it looks worse than John Locke's bullet wound! I hope Richard Alpert puts some disinfectant on it too before his pedicure!

THEORY>> The army was there to protect dharma from the current island 'natives/inhabitants' while dharma built the stations, the compound and until the security wall was up and running.

THEORY>> I think we are being tricked into believing Ms Hawking to be Daniel Faraday's mother. The Ms instead of Mrs in front of her name is indication.

THEORY>> LOCKE IS NOT DEAD! He has simply been drugged with Artz's spider venom. The same venom poison that got Nikki and Paulo mistaken and left(or shall we say buried) for dead. This would relieve Darlton from having to explain Locke's death as permanent or the island miraculously 'reviving' him upon his return.

COMMENT>> Ben's Group of others in the real world-- seems to have an elaborate hierarchy for the others in their travel back and forth. There is an apparent chain of command where Jacob does not appear to be on the top. I'd like to have this further explained

IDEAS
COMMENT>>> Talk shoe needs to provide a way to capture text in the chat room as you see in in Talk Shoe Pro and be able to save it to a file -- lots a great stuff is missed in the chat room
COMMENT>> Talk shoe Pro client should include a spell checker.
